OFAC Restrictions with Duo MFA

Certain government restrictions may affect your access to Duquesne University network resources.

In order to verify your identity, Duquesne University utilizies a third-party program called Duo Multi-factor Authentication. In 2022, Duo announced that it would be blocking any authentications originating from countries or regions under economic and trade sanctions from the United States as identified by the U.S. Office of Foreign Access Control (OFAC).

Consequently, anyone who attempts to log on to Duquesne University applications from one of the OFAC-regulated countries or regions will be blocked and receive an error message. This error message will ordinarily read "Access denied. Duo Security does not provide services in your current location."

What should I do?

The application and enrollment process at Duquesne University requires Duo. Without Duo MFA access, you cannot complete the ordinary enrollment steps.

Duquesne University wants to work with you in order to help you attend. Please reach out to the Center for Global Engagement at your earliest convenience and explain that you are registering from an OFAC-restricted country or region. The Center for Global Engagement can help you submit your application and identification materials, track your application status, and issue your I-20. Please contact them at intladmissions@duq.edu.
