How To: Add a Chosen First Name

Students, Faculty or Staff who identify by a name other than their given first name (or "legal name") may use a Chosen First Name. This article will explain the process for adding a Chosen First Name to your account.

Steps

Members of the Duquesne University community can add a Chosen First Name change within the Duquesne Portal Self Service/Personal Information. Alumni can contact Alumni Affairs.

Note: Special characters and accent marks are not supported when typing a Chosen First Name. (special character examples: $@#%^~&*) (accent mark examples: é - â/ê/î/ô/û - à/è/ì/ò/ù)

  1. Log in to duq.edu/portal.
    • For students, click Personal Information in the Student Profile tile.
    • For faculty and staff, click Personal Information in the Employee Profile tile.

  2. In the top right of the page, Personal Details block, click Edit

  3. Enter your Chosen First Name, then click Update
