What is Generative AI?
Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) encompasses technologies capable of creating new content, be it text, images, or music, by learning from existing data. This innovative field is revolutionizing how we approach content creation, enabling rapid and diverse generation of creative works.
Key Guidelines for Using AI
Protecting Personal Information
When utilizing AI tools, it's imperative to handle data responsibly. Avoid inputting sensitive or confidential information into these systems, as they may not guarantee complete data security. Familiarize yourself with the Data Governance Service Requirement to ensure compliance on data privacy and protect personal information of the Duquesne community.
Best Practices for Data Privacy
- Avoid sharing personal identifiers like social security numbers or addresses.
- Use anonymized data whenever possible.
- Regularly review and update privacy settings on AI platforms.
Ensuring Digital Safety
Security risks are a significant concern with AI technologies. Malicious actors can misuse AI to create sophisticated phishing schemes and other deceptive content. Stay vigilant and up-to-date with cybersecurity best practices to safeguard your digital environment against these evolving threats by visiting duq.edu/safe-computing. To report a phishing incident or access comprehensive resources about phishing visit duq.edu/phishing.
Enhancing AI Security
- Implement multi-factor authentication for AI tool access.
- Regularly update software to patch vulnerabilities.
- Conduct regular security audits and risk assessments.
Intellectual Property and Ethics
The legal landscape for AI-generated content is still evolving. It's crucial to respect existing copyright laws and consider adding your personal touch to AI outputs to enhance originality. Always review and adhere to the Copyright and Fair Use: Duquesne Policy in your creative processes.
Maintaining Ethical Standards
- Avoid using AI to create misleading or harmful content.
- Give credit to original sources when using AI-generated material.
- Regularly engage in ethical training and discussions about AI use.
Verifying Content Correctness
AI systems generate content based on their training data and user inputs, which can sometimes lead to inaccuracies. Ensure you thoroughly review and fact-check AI-generated content to maintain the integrity and reliability of your work. Refer to T.A.P. No. 26: Acceptable Use of Computing Resources, for more information.
Improving Content Correctness
- Cross-check AI-generated content with credible sources.
- Refine prompts to improve the quality of AI outputs.
- Continuously train AI models with up-to-date and accurate data.
