Overview

Sponsored accounts allow Duquesne University faculty and staff to provide campus resources, such as DuqNet and CTS-managed computer labs, to eligible guests and University affiliates. These accounts are managed through identity.duq.edu.

 

Eligibility and Responsibilities

  • Eligible Users: Guests, contractors, vendors, visiting scholars, alumni, and event attendees.
  • Sponsor's Role: University sponsors are responsible for their guest's access and compliance with TAP 26: Acceptable Use of Computing Resources.

 

Sponsored Account Service Requirements

All University employees who create a sponsored account must adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Sponsored accounts must be created by a current Duquesne University employee.
  • Sponsored accounts can be extended for up to one year.
  • Sponsored accounts can be disabled before their expiration date.
  • Sponsored accounts can be reactivated if expired, but only before the yearly removal process.
  • A guest using a sponsored account may not request an account for another person.
  • The creator of the sponsored account is responsible for managing it and their guest's actions.
  • Sponsored accounts must be used only for the intended purpose set by the sponsor.
  • Any modifications to an existing sponsored account must be made by the original sponsor.
  • Required sponsored account information:
    • Guest’s first and last name
    • Valid email address (must NOT be @duq.edu)
    • Sponsor’s name
    • Expiration date
    • Email Enabled (Allows guest users to log and send/receive email from duq.edu/mail)
    •  School Affiliation (DO NOT MAKE A SELECTION. NOT REQUIRED FOR ACCESS)
  • All guests must follow TAP 26: Acceptable Use of Computing Resources.

 

Procedures

Become a Sponsor

Before creating an account sponsor, you must have Sponsor Access. To request access, email ITServices@duq.edu and ask to be granted permission to sponsor accounts. Once approved, you can follow the steps below to create guest accounts as needed.

Create a Sponsored Account

  1. Navigate to identity.duq.edu.
  2. Log in with your MultiPass credentials.
  3. Select Dashboard > People.
  4. Choose My Sponsored Accounts from the left menu.
  5. Click Add Person + and fill in:
    • Guest's First and Last Name
    • Guest's Email Address (non-@duq.edu address)
    • Your Name (as Sponsor)
    • Expiration Date
    • Wireless Class: Guest
  6. Click Create.
  7. Forward the confirmation email to the guest for account setup.
  8. Your guest will need to follow the link and choose to Claim Account account by entering the user name and completing the captcha.
  9. You guest will then be able to create a password for their new account.
  10. Once complete your guest will have access to DuqNet Guest Wireless as well as log on access to Lab Computers simply log on with the newly created user name and password 

Zoom Access (HIPAA Compliant)

If your guest needs access to Zoom, simply email ITservices@duq.edu with the guest's username and let them know your guest needs Zoom access and specify whether they need access with or without the screen recording option.

Canvas Access

To add a guest to a course in Canvas, email ITservices@duq.edu with the guest’s username and request access for them. Once the request is processed, you can add the guest to your course using their newly created username.

  1. Who can create or request a sponsored account?
  2. Do sponsored account passwords expire?
    • Yes, passwords expire every 365 days. 
  3. How many accounts can I create at a time?
    • Unlimited.
  4. How will I know my account is created?
    • You will receive a confirmation email to forward to your guest.
