How To: Manage LISTSERV List Members

If you need to send an email to a large number of recipients, we recommend requesting a mailing list. The University uses LISTSERV to create and manage electronic mailing lists.

This article explains how to manage the members on a LISTSERV list. Use the navigation form below to find illustrated instructions on doing so:

Steps

Adding Single Members to a List

  1. Under the List Management menu, select Subscriber Management

  2. Under the Select List dropdown, select the list you are wanting to modify, and click Update

  3. Scroll to the lower section of the window, and in the Email Address and Name field, enter the new member's name and email address as indicated in the example
  4. Under Notification, mark "Send Email Notification" if you want the subscriber to receive an email that they have been added to the list
  5. Click Add Subscriber

Adding Multiple Members to a List

  1. Under the List Management menu, select Subscriber Reports

  2. Select your list from the dropdown, and click Update

  3. Underneath the Select List form, there is an Add Subscriber block; click Bulk Operations

  4. Select Add the imported addresses to the list
  5. Select Choose File and navigate to the .CSV or plain text file containing addresses
  6. Click Import

    • PLEASE NOTE: Excel files will NOT work for uploads. When you bulk upload members, please make sure the .csv file only contains the email address, and make sure the email addresses are all lowercase.

Deleting Single Members from a List

  1. Under the List Management menu, select Subscriber Management

  2. Under Subscriber Management, select the list you are interested in from the dropdown and click Update

  3. Under the Search for Subscribers section, enter the last name of the address you wish to remove and click Search

  4. If the member is a subscriber to your list, the following screen will be displayed along with all of their settings on the list. Scroll to the bottom and click Delete

Deleting Multiple Members from a List

  1. Under the List Management menu, select Subscriber Reports

  2. Select your list from the dropdown, and click Update

  3. Scroll to the Report section, and select the checkbox next all the users to be removed from the list, then click Delete Subscribers

  4. You will be prompted to confirm that you want to delete the subscribers; click Delete

  5. The following screen will provide a list of confirmations of all emails removed from the list

Note

If the list is a Banner-fed list, users will be added back automatically if they unsubscribe from the list.
