Network: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi Connections

Issue 

  • I cannot connect to the network
  • Troubleshooting Wi-Fi in my dorm room
  • My Wi-Fi is slow on campus
  • Cannot connect to DuqNet
  • Unable to connect device to DuqNet IoT

Environment

  • Wifi Network(s)

Resolution 

Confirm Your Settings are Correct

Confirm You Are Using the Correct Network

  • Primary Network: DuqNet (Laptops, Cellphones, Tablets, etc)
  • Internet of Things (IoT) Network: DuqNet IoT (TVs, consoles, e-readers etc.)
  • Guest Access: DuqNet Guest (Visitors, Merchants, etc)
  • Eduroam:  a secure, worldwide roaming wireless network service for the international research and education community accessible 

Toggle Wi-Fi Off and On

  • Turn WiFi off, wait 10 seconds, turn it back on
  • Attempt to reconnect

Restart Your Device

  • Fully power off (not sleep)
  • Turn back on and reconnect

Forget and Reconnect to the Network

This resolves many authentication/certificate issues.

Steps:

  1. Go to WiFi settings
  2. Select the appropriate network (DuqNet, DuqNet IoT, eduroam)
  3. Choose Forget Network
  4. Reconnect to the appropriate network (DuqNet, DuqNet IoT, or eduroam)
  5. Enter your campus credentials
  6. Accept the certificate when prompted

Check Signal Strength

  • Move closer to a wireless access point
  • Avoid basements, stairwells, or dense concrete areas
