How To: Find Information About Your Duquesne-managed Computer

Description

In the process of troubleshooting a problem with a Support Analyst, it sometimes becomes necessary to provide them information about your computer or device. This article describes how to find machine information such as computer name, model, and IP address on Duquesne-managed Windows and macOS devices.

Windows

Computer Name

Every Windows machine on the Duquesne campus has a unique device name, which identifies it to our domain network. There are two ways to quickly find this on Windows.

With ITSS Machine Information
  1. Open the Start menu in the lower left-hand corner of your screen, and scroll to find the pre-installed ITSS Machine Information program

  2. The Machine Name of your device will be listed in the Machine Information window at the top, after "duq.local\"
With System Info
  1. Click the Magnifying Glass icon, or use the Search Bar on the Task Bar, to open the Search prompt, and search for PC name
  2. Click View your PC name

  3. Your computer name will be displayed beside Device Name

Computer Model

Your computer's model may be given on a sticker on the back or bottom of the device, or it can be found via the ITSS Machine Information program:

  1. Open the Start menu in the lower left-hand corner of your screen, and scroll to find the pre-installed ITSS Machine Information program

IP Address

There are two ways to find your Windows device's IP address.

With ITSS Machine Information
  1. Open the Start menu in the lower left-hand corner of your screen, and scroll to find the pre-installed ITSS Machine Information program

  2. Your IP address will be listed beside "IP Address"

macOS

Computer Model

  1. Open the Apple menu in the upper left-hand corner
  2. Click About This Mac
  3. Your Mac's model will be listed directly underneath the Mac version number

IP Address

  1. Click the Network Icon in the upper right-hand corner
  2. Open Network Preferences...
  3. Choose the network interface you're trying to find the IP address for; The IP address will be listed under Status
