Windows 10
Steps
- Determine whether the printer you want to install is a Xerox or an HP or Brother printer
- Find the device name of your printer; this will typically be formatted with an abbreviation of the building it is located in, followed by a room number and the brand of the printer. For example, a Xerox printer located in room 413 of College Hall will be named ch413xerox. If you do not know the printer name, ask your department supervisor to provide this information.
- Press the Windows icon in the lower-left hand corner to open the Start menu
- If you are installing a Xerox printer, type "\\xprint" (no quotation marks). If you are installing any other printer, type "\\duprint" (no quotation marks).
- Press Enter or click Open
- You will be presented with a list of printers. Find your printer in the list, and double-click it to install it.
- The printer should install, and you should now be able to select it when printing a document.

In many cases, department printers can be added to computers through the Self Service app.

- Select your printer, and click Install
Installing Printers on macOS by Hostname
If the printer you are trying to install is not listed in Self Service, you can attempt to install it via hostname. This is a slightly more unreliable method.
