Email Address Not Auto-populating

Issue

Users may notice that their email address does not automatically appear when others attempt to email or share documents with them (e.g., in Outlook Email and Calendars). This is typically due to a privacy setting that restricts directory information from being disclosed.

Environment

  • Outlook
  • OneDrive

Resolution

To allow your email address to auto populate in shared documents, follow these steps to update your FERPA privacy settings:

  1. Go to portal.duq.edu and sign in.
  2. Click the Student Profile tile.
  3. Select Answer a Survey.
  4. Under the “Other” section, click Answer a Survey again.
  5. Choose FERPA Waivers and Nondisclosure.
  6. Select the option:
“You may disclose my Directory Information to third-parties.”
  7. Complete the remaining survey questions and click Save.

Cause

A FERPA-related privacy setting prevents your directory information (including your email address) from being visible to third parties. As a result, your email will not autopopulate in sharing fields unless manually entered.

Additional Information

Changes may take up to 24 hours to take effect.

  • Once updated, your email address should appear automatically in document sharing fields.
  • Your account remains fully functional even if you choose not to update this setting; others can still share documents with you by manually entering your full email address.
