Description
Secure Shell (SSH) ingress network traffic will be blocked beginning at 12 p.m. on October 12, 2022. SSH is a network communication tool that enables communication between two computers over an unsecured network.
Why is this happening?
An unsecured outside SSH connection can present an opportunity for cyber attackers to gain privileged access to the University's network, impersonate users, and gain access to sensitive information. Blocking public access to the University's network will prevent outside users from gaining access to University data.
Computing and Technology Services (CTS) has been continually improving our cyber security posture while also working to address changing data compliance obligations. One area that is now the target of regulators requires reducing the risk of exposed computing systems on the public internet. Exposed SSH clients on the internet have been identified by several external agencies as a serious risk to Duquesne University. Addressing this risk is essential to maintain our positive ratings with those organizations.
What do I need to do?
