Workshop and Webinar Trainings
Educational Technology Instructional Designers lead live face-to-face and webinar training sessions. The face-to-face option provides the most hands-on, real-time experience. Several live sessions are offered monthly. Dates can be found by visiting the following registration link. View a description of the various trainings.
Self-Guided Tutorial
We also offer the Canvas Instructor Self-Guided Tutorial to all faculty, staff, and graduate assistants upon request. While comprehensive, the self-guided tutorial is Canvas-created, so it is not tailored to Duquesne faculty like our live training options. However, completing the self-guided tutorial will provide you with all the basics needed to start building and teaching future courses in Canvas.
Student Training
All students are automatically enrolled in the Essentials in Online Learning course. This course provides an overview of how to use Canvas and skills students may find helpful if they take any course with an online component here at Duquesne.
Foundations in Online Teaching & Learning
We offer an 8-week online, asynchronous professional development course called Foundations in Online Teaching and Learning (FOTL). In FOTL, instructors learn about effective online teaching practices as they begin to develop or redesign content for an online course. To learn more, read through the FOTL Executive Statement.
FOTL has been received positively by Duquesne instructors and is our primary recommendation for anyone new to online teaching. Instructors with online teaching experience also benefit as FOTL helps instructors take a strategic approach to online course design in order to deliver a course more effective at supporting student learning.
