My name isn't displayed right in Outlook

Description

On Duquesne Microsoft Outlook accounts, display names are provided by the University from our back-end systems. It is thus not possible to directly change a display name in Outlook; however, there are a few reasons why a display name may appear differently than you expect, and there are steps you can take to correct this.

"Chosen Name" is incorrect

When the first part of your name (first name) is different than you expect, the reason is most likely that the Chosen name field was set erroneously in the Dori Personal Information portal. Resolving this issue is as simple as setting or removing your Chosen First Name:

Duquesne Intranet: Chosen First Name

Last name is incorrect

If your last name is set incorrectly in Outlook, it's likely that your last name needs to be changed.

Students can contact the Registrar to request a last name change; faculty and staff can reach out to Human Resources.

Special characters are not displaying correctly in name

In many cases, characters like é, è, î, and other special characters are not able to display correctly in all encoding schemes. The characters in your name may appear as boxes, backwards question marks, or other strange streams of characters.

In this case, it is necessary to set your Chosen name field to remove these special characters. Please allow up to 72 hours for this change to reflect in all systems.
