How To: Use eduroam

Description

Computing and Technology Services (CTS) participates in eduroam, a secure, global internet service developed for the international research and education community. You can use your Duquesne University email address and password to connect to a participating university's wireless network. Likewise, visitors from universities that participate in eduroam can connect to Duquesne's wireless network.

Eduroam is currently available at more than 100 countries worldwide. You can find participating countries and universities on eduroam's website or by using the eduroam Companion app on your iOS or Android mobile device.

How to Connect to eduroam

Visiting a participating university

If you are a Duquesne University student or employee who is visiting a university that participates in eduroam, you can connect to their eduroam hotspot by:

  1. Selecting eduroam from the list of available wireless networks.
  2. Entering your Duquesne email address in the username field.
  3. Entering your MultiPass password in the password field.

Visiting Duquesne University

If you are from a university that participates in eduroam and visiting Duquesne University, you can connect to eduroam by:

  1. Select Eduroam from the list of available wireless networks.
  2. Enter the email address and password from your home institution.

Who do I contact for support if I am unable to connect to eduroam?

If you are a member of Duquesne: Contact the IT Service Desk at 412.396.4357 or help@duq.edu.

If you are visiting from another university: Contact Duquesne's IT Service Desk first. They can confirm if the eduroam service is available on Duquesne's campus. If the service is available and you are still unable to connect, contact your university's technical support department for further assistance. 

What type of internet access does eduroam provide?

Eduroam will provide different network access depending on whether you are a member of the Duquesne community or a visitor to Duquesne's campus.

Member of Duquesne Eduroam provides access to Duquesne's online resources as if you were connected to DuqNet. Eduroam provides access to internet resources that are determined by a participating university's IT department.
Visitor from participating university Eduroam provides internet access and allows for VPN capabilities. Eduroam provides access to internet resources that are determined by a participating university's IT department.

What are the service requirements for connecting to eduroam?

Anyone connecting to eduroam is held to the same network guidelines and policies as those connecting to DuqNet. This includes our Wireless Airspace Policy and Network service requirements.
