How To: Access and Use Microsoft Teams

Overview

Microsoft Teams is an online collaboration tool that is part of the University's Office 365 suite of services. Teams provides a collaborative workspace that features instant messaging, meetings, audio or video calls, file and screen sharing, integration with OneNote, and more.

Access Teams

Download Teams

If you are using a University-managed device, please download Microsoft Teams through Software Center (Windows OS) or Self-Service (macOS). Otherwise, use one of the following links to download Microsoft Teams on a personal device.

Use the web app

Go to teams.microsoft.com and sign in using your University email address and password.


Features

Chat

You can chat one-on-one with a colleague or start a group chat in Teams. During a chat, you can share your screen and send files or links.

Files

Teams makes it easy to share and work together on Microsoft Office files. Within Teams, you and your colleagues can view, edit and collaborate on Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio files. Files are stored in Teams using Microsoft OneDrive, meaning you can easily access them from any device.

Note: Personally-identifiable information (PII) should not be shared in Microsoft Teams.

Meetings

In Teams, you can start an audio, video or screen sharing meeting with people inside and outside Duquesne University. Meetings can be scheduled using Teams or Microsoft Outlook.

Notifications

Need to get someone's attention in Teams? You can @mention them in a channel conversation or chat, which will send them a notification. Simply type @ followed by their name and then select them from the menu that appears. You can use @team and @channel to notify everyone on a team or channel.

Teams and channels

A team is an online workspace for a group of people to work together and share resources. Teams are made up of channels, which are spaces for team members to discuss specific topics or projects. Team members can start text, audio or video conversations, share files and add apps in a channel.

Note: Team owners are responsible for adding members to teams and private channels.
