How To: Install Endnote 21 for Windows and macOS

Description

This document provides step-by-step instructions for installing Endnote 21 on both a Windows and Mac computer.

Windows

1. Go to the CTS Software Catalog and click EndNote, then sign into DORI
2. Click Download under EndNote 21, then you will be redirected to a Box folder. Click Download
   
   
3. Open File Explorer and go to your Downloads folder
4. Right-click on the EndNote 21.zip file and choose Extract All. Click Extract and make sure the box is checked to open files in a new window
   
5. Double-click on the EN21Inst.msi file to begin the installation process
   Make sure the EN21Inst.msi install file is in the same folder as the License.dat file, which it is by default.
   
6. Click Next, then click Accept
   
7. Click Next, read the license agreement, select I Accept The License Agreement, then click Next
   
8. Click Typical and then click Next, then click Next again
   
9. Click Next, and if prompted for User Account Control permission click Yes, then click Finish after installation is complete
   
10. Click Start and search for EndNote to begin using the program
11. You may be prompted to update EndNote upon launch. Click Download and Install then follow the steps to install the update
    

macOS

1. Go to the CTS Software Catalog and click EndNote, then sign into DORI
2. Click Download, then you will be redirected to a Box folder. Click Download
   
3. Open Finder and go to your Downloads folder
4. Double-click on the EndNote20-20201218.pkg file to begin the installation process; click Continue
   
   Note: You may be prompted to go to System Preferences > Security > Privacy to allow the installation file to be opened.
5. Click Continue, make sure the Macintosh HD is selected, then click Continue
   
6. Click Install to begin the installation process, and once the installation is complete, select Move to Trash to delete the installation file
   
7. To launch EndNote 20, go to Finder > Applications > EndNote
8. You may be prompted to update EndNote upon initial launch. Click Download and Install then follow the steps to install the update
