MiCollab Softphone

Summary

MiCollab Softphone is a Voice over IP (VoIP) application that allows users to make and receive phone calls from their Duquesne University extension using a computer or mobile device. It is available to all faculty, staff, and students as part of the MiCollab PC, Mac, and mobile client and serves as a flexible alternative to a physical desk phone.

Note: When using MiCollab Softphone off campus, a VPN connection is required. Connect to Global Protect before launching MiCollab.

Access

MiCollab Softphone is available to all Duquesne University faculty and staff requests for softphone access can be made here: Service - MiCollab Softphone

Faculty/Staff Access

Faculty and Staff can install the MiCollab client on University-owned computers or mobile devices. 

Requirements

  • VPN connection required when using MiCollab off campus
  • Wi-Fi connection recommended for mobile use to avoid carrier data charges

Using MiCollab Softphone

Enable Softphone on Windows PC or Mac

  1. Open the MiCollab desktop client.
  2. Click the Softphone toggle in the lower-right corner to enable it.
  3. Select the Setup Icon (lower-left corner or left-hand menu) to choose your preferred audio device.
  4. Click your profile picture to open availability status settings.
  5. Confirm the Softphone status is enabled, then toggle incoming calls to ring to your Softphone.

Note: Audio device settings can also be changed during an active call.

Enable Softphone on the Mobile App

  1. Open the MiCollab app on your mobile device.
  2. Swipe the green tab on the right side of the screen toward the center to open availability status.
  3. Select your desired availability status and enable the Softphone option.

Make a Call

Use any of the following methods:

  • Search: Enter a contact name or 10-digit phone number in the search bar.
  • Hover: Hover over a contact's profile picture and click the phone icon.
  • Right-click: Right-click a contact's profile picture and select Call.
  • Call History: Click the phone icon in call history to place a call.

Receive a Call

  1. Click the incoming call notification in the lower-right corner of your screen.
  2. Answer by clicking the green phone icon, or ignore by clicking the red phone icon.

Active Call Controls

  • End a call: Click the red hang-up icon.
  • Hold: Click the pause icon to hold; click again to resume.
  • Transfer: Click the three vertical dots icon, select Transfer, choose a contact or enter a number, then select Blind Transfer or Consultation Call.
  • Conference: Click the three vertical dots icon, select Conference, add a contact or number, then click the + (plus) icon to complete setup.
