Windows 10

Steps

  1. Determine whether the printer you want to install is a Xerox or an HP or Brother printer
  2. Find the device name of your printer; this will typically be formatted with an abbreviation of the building it is located in, followed by a room number and the brand of the printer. For example, a Xerox printer located in room 413 of College Hall will be named ch413xerox. If you do not know the printer name, ask your department supervisor to provide this information.
  3. Press the Windows icon in the lower-left hand corner to open the Start menu

Installing Printers Through Duquesne Self Service

In many cases, department printers can be added to computers through the Self Service app.

Installing Printers on macOS by Hostname

If the printer you are trying to install is not listed in Self Service, you can attempt to install it via hostname. This is a slightly more unreliable method.

  3. In the upper-left hand corner of your screen, open the Apple menu

  8. For Address, enter the device name of your printer, followed by .copier.duq.local. Select IPP, and leave Queue empty.

  9. Press Add to add the printer to install the printer

Note

  • For non-Xerox printers, it might be necessary to use "devicename.printer.duq.local" for the printer host name instead of "devicename.copier.duq.local."
  • You will need to be connected to the Duquesne network in order to print to a Duquesne network printer.
